If you plan to host a Zoom meeting that you want to share later, recording it is essential. Thankfully, Zoom offers a built-in feature that makes recording meetings straightforward.
How to Record Zoom Meetings
Zoom provides two recording options: cloud and local recording. Cloud recordings are stored on Zoom’s servers and are available only to paid subscribers. In contrast, local recordings are saved directly to your device and are accessible on the free plan, too. Since they’re available for everyone, we’ll focus on the latter.
Here’s how to record a Zoom meeting:
- Open the Zoom app and sign in to your account.
- Click New Meeting to host a Zoom meeting.
- Click the Record button in the bottom menu to start recording the meeting. If the menu isn’t visible, hover over the video output area first to reveal it.
- To pause the recording, click the Pause recording button on the left. (You can resume by selecting the Resume recording button.)
- To stop, click the Stop recording button on the right. Ending the meeting will also automatically stop the recording.
You can start recording a Zoom meeting at any point, whether at the beginning or in the middle of the session—Zoom doesn’t impose any restrictions on when you can begin.
Keep an eye on your storage space, especially if you record long meetings. Zoom recordings can consume significant disk space over time.
How to Access Recorded Zoom Meetings
When you end the meeting, Zoom will start processing the recording immediately. Depending on the length of the recording, this process might take some minutes. Once it’s done processing, Zoom will save the recording on your device and automatically open the folder where it’s stored.
If the folder doesn’t open automatically, you can access your Zoom recording by following these steps:
- Open the Zoom desktop app.
- On the app’s home page, click Open Recordings and select the Local Recordings tab.
- Click the image icon to play the recording.
- To see where the files are saved locally, click View Local Recording.
Zoom’s recording feature is invaluable for sharing meetings with those who couldn’t attend or for keeping a record of important discussions. With these instructions, you should be able to record your Zoom sessions and access the recordings without any hassle.
