We’ve all been there: you sit down to watch TV but can’t figure out what to watch. Or worse, someone has suggested something to watch, and you can only remember a tiny bit of information, like the actor’s name or a key quote.
TiVo hears this frustration, and its updated voice search function is here to help you.
TiVo’s Tip of the Tongue Search Is a Game Changer
TiVo’s search functionality has steadily improved for years. First, it offered deeper integration into your streaming services, then added voice search functionality across them. Now, you can get super-specific with your voice searches, helping you find something to watch even if you can only remember the name of a song, a quote from a movie or show, and so on.
In a demo at IFA 2024, I used TiVo’s voice search to find “Let It Go,” which promptly brought up Frozen. Similarly, “You can’t handle the truth” instantly returned the all-time classic A Few Good Men. It works for all movies and TV shows available on TiVo’s myriad TV streaming options, whether you’re using its integrated free options or your streaming subscriptions.
Now, searching for a show using a quote isn’t entirely new. You could do this on Sky Q back in 2017, but it was extremely limited and only searched using pre-defined quotes. For example, “You’re gonna need a bigger boat” would return Jaws, but other quotes from the film wouldn’t.
TiVo’s version is much more specific and applies to a vast number of movies and shows, making it a more versatile option.
TiVo Is Expanding Its Coverage
TiVo is also massively expanding its operating system platform to a bunch of new OEM partners, including Bush, Sharp, Panasonic, Vestel, and more. I saw the new and upgraded version of TiVo at IFA, which now allows deeper integrations with the streaming subscriptions you already have.
The deeper integration throughout your streaming world allows TiVo to make better suggestions about what you want to watch, not just based on the programming you’ve already consumed but also on different patterns, like the time of day. For instance, if you love watching the breaking news in the morning with your cup of coffee, TiVo will learn this and suggest news and news-related programming.
It’s been a few years in the making, but TiVo is quickly becoming one of the go-to features to look at when you’re buying a new TV.
