There are a ton of streaming options out there, but from the moment Disney+ launched, I have been hooked. From watching treasured movies from my childhood to its expansive content partnerships, here are the five reasons I have made Disney+ my top service.
1 A Treasure Trove of Classic Movies
If you were a kid who grew up before streaming platforms, then waiting for a new Disney film felt like a rite of passage. You either had to buy the movie on VHS or you would have to wait for it to reappear at the rental store. Even worse, Disney movies frequently went “into the Vault”, meaning they’d be unavailable until they came out again, usually to mark some special event.
Fast-forward to today and every Disney classic is a simple search away. Want to revisit the magical adventures of Simba or journey under the sea with Ariel? No problem! The convenience of having all these childhood staples on demand is a dream come true for adults like me!
2 Live Channels
Another favorite feature of mine when it comes to Disney+ is its newly introduced live channels! These live channels compile large playlists of episodes from a single show, such as Spidey and His Amazing Friends (my kiddos are huge fans), which then run continuously. That means there is no having to get up and start a new episode; rather, it begins automatically after the last episode ends.
Right now, Disney is demoing the channels, which are mostly limited to kid’s shows, but there are plans for more based on various themes, including seasonal content, Marvel or Star Wars, throwbacks, and more—and I, for one, can’t wait!
3 Easy-to-Use UI
Another of the things that I find to be pretty sweet when it comes to Disney+ and its related apps is just how simple the user interface, or UI, is to use. Most streaming services have been trying to make sure that their platforms are easy to navigate, but not everyone manages to make it as simple and streamlined as Disney has managed to do.
Large icons, popular movies, and shows being grouped under specific categories, such as Star Wars, Marvel, and more, all make it super easy to find what you are looking for regardless of what device you are on.
Why does this matter? Well, for me, I have a small child that adores Disney shows and is just figuring out how to manage the platform on his own. Rather than having to do everything for him I can actually trust that he can easily find what he is looking for with the click or swipe of just a few buttons. If he wants to watch Bluey or Spidey he can reach it within seconds. That is not something I can say of many platforms, so Disney gets bonus points for that fact!
There are also useful features like the ability to download Disney+ movies and shows for offline viewing.
4 Expansive Content Partnerships
Another much-loved aspect of Disney+ is its content partnerships. The recent collaboration with Hulu has expanded what we can watch nearly exponentially, and between the two, we all now have access to a ton of different movies, series, documentaries, and more.
Disney+ has also teamed up with National Geographic (I love my documentaries) and revealed plans for an upcoming partnership with ESPN, meaning sports enthusiasts will also get their nod in the near future. That kind of expansive content strategy means I can combine several streaming services in one instead of having half a dozen different subscriptions. The less I have to keep track of, the better!
5 Sharing With the Next Generation
Finally, and perhaps my favorite aspect of Disney+ overall, is how much it lets me share beloved childhood films with my own kids. It makes it easy to watch their faces light up during those epic moments I remember enjoying so much myself thirty years ago (hey, don’t judge), while also hitting all the right nostalgia notes.
Plus, we can explore all sorts of new kid’s shows like Bluey or Spidey and His Amazing Friends, which means there is always new content alongside the timeless classics. The beauty here is Disney+’s ability to forge a connection between generations, blending the past with exciting new adventures that kids today can delve into.
In the end, Disney+ has become a truly beloved staple in my streaming arsenal. From its library filled with nostalgia and new finds to all the experiences it has to offer, the whole platform manages to stand out in a way that others can’t quite live up to.
