Green Lines on Your Android Phone’s Screen? Try These 3 Fixes

Although the green lines on my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra didn’t interfere with the touch functionality, they blocked the content on the screen, requiring consistent zoom in and out to see them clearly. Here’s everything I did to fix the issue.

1 Check if It’s a Software Issue

The green lines on Android devices are often a result of hardware issues, but before visiting a service center, it’s worth checking if the problem is software-related. Sometimes, a recent update may be the culprit. If you haven’t installed an update, use your phone’s built-in diagnostic tool to determine if the issue is due to a software glitch.

If you own a Samsung Galaxy phone, open the Phone app and enter *#0*# to bring up a hidden diagnostics menu. Tap the RED box, and as your display turns red, check if the green lines are still visible. Tap the screen to return to the menu. Then, repeat the steps with the GREEN and BLUE options. You can press the back button twice to exit the diagnostic menu.

Additionally, restart your Android phone in safe mode to rule out any third-party app issues. On a Samsung Galaxy device, press and hold the Power button to bring up the power menu. Then tap and hold the Power off option until the safe mode prompt appears. Tap Safe mode to restart your phone.

If the green lines persist in safe mode, update your device’s firmware to see if that fixes the problem.

2 Update Your Android Firmware

Installing the latest firmware update can fix the green lines issue caused by software bugs. To update your Samsung Galaxy device, go to Settings > Software Update and tap Check for updates. Tap OK and then continue to install any pending software updates.

If your device fails to find an update, you can use the Smart Switch app on your computer to update your Galaxy device. After installing the app on both your phone and PC, launch it, connect your phone to the computer using a USB cable, and wait to see if an update is available.

If you have a Google Pixel phone, you can update it by going to Settings > System > System update.

3 Replace the Faulty Screen

In most cases, green lines appear due to a faulty AMOLED screen or a damaged display connector. In such cases, replacing the display is your only option.

If your phone is still under warranty and you haven’t physically damaged the device, you may be eligible for a free screen replacement. If not, you’ll have to bear the cost, which is often 30 to 50 percent of your phone’s market price.

Alternatively, you can consider sourcing a genuine display part from a local repair shop, which should help you save some money.

Before you decide to replace your phone’s display, rule out software-related issues by booting into safe mode, using the built-in diagnostic tool, and updating your firmware. If a display replacement seems inevitable, be sure to secure your Android phone before sending it for repair.
