This New AI Feature Available for the Gmail App Actually Sounds Useful

AI technology is almost everywhere these days. The problem is, in many cases, it doesn’t actually make the service or app better. But Google is further rolling out a new Gemini feature for the Gmail app that actually sounds great.

Use Gmail Q&A to Ask Questions About Your Inbox

After being rolled out starting in August on Android, the Gmail Q&A is beginning to arrive in the Gmail iOS app.

It’s available for Google Workspace customers with Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium, or Google One AI Premium. The feature is only available in English.

You can tap Google’s AI Gemini to answer a number of questions. For example, you can ask specific questions about emails, show unread or all messages from a specific person, summarize emails about a topic, and answer general questions from search.

To find the feature, you will need to select the black Gemini star at the top right of the app or select the summarize this email chip. In the future, along with Gmail, the feature will also be able to find information from your Google Drive as well. The new AI feature won’t take the place of the search bar, so you can still find information that way as well.

Making Gmail Easier to Manage

Email is an annoyance of today’s modern life. It never seems like there is enough time in the day to tackle the huge deluge of information in my Gmail box.

While it’s far from perfect, Gmail Q&A actually sounds like a useful feature that can help better understand what’s in your inbox and what’s most important. It’s nice to see Google actually use AI for something useful. It’s definitely better than Google’s ridiculed AI Overview.

If you’re using Gmail on the desktop, make sure to see our tips on how to further use Gemini and to streamline your productivity.

Earlier this week, Google announced a new look for the Gmail summary cards that provide relevant information. Along with the redesign, cards will be dynamic so you can see the most relevant information. Cards will be available for purchases, events, bills, and travel.
