The Steam Deck is a great way to play games on the go, but it doesn’t natively support titles purchased outside of Valve’s platform. Fortunately, there are plenty of third-party apps you can install that let you play games from other platforms. Now, one of those tools is planning a release on Steam itself, and if everything goes well, you can use it to play Epic Store and Galaxy of Games (GoG) titles.
The Junk Store App Appears on Steam
As spotted by GamingOnLinux, Junk Store lets you play games from other storefronts on your Steam Deck. In an interesting move, the app has appeared on Steam itself, albeit it’s not actually released yet. The developer is holding back for now to gauge interest via user wishlists, and it admits that there’s a good chance that Valve will stop it during the game release process.
If the devs do manage to get the app onto the Steam store, you can boot up Junk Store natively on your Steam Deck. That way, you won’t need to install any third-party plugins—just run it like a regular game. The store page describes it like this:
Junk Store is now on Steam. This is a standalone version rewritten from the ground up to remove the dependency on Decky loader. Now you can install your favourite games from the Epic Games Store and the Gog Store right within game mode.
No need to mess with external launchers, go native! This is as easy as it can get, no need to enter desktop mode!
We don’t know all the details just yet, but as the developers confirmed on the subreddit dedicated to Junk Store, the app will not be free or open source due to the logistics of getting it working on Steam. However, if it’s allowed on, it should become an excellent tool for those who have games strewn across multiple launchers.
