How long do you fritter away on social media every day? If you’re not sure, your Android phone is about to give you the cold, hard truth. In a silent update, Google has added new screen time reminders that will let you know how long you’ve been on a specific app.
As spotted by 9to5Google, this new feature appears in Android’s “Digital Wellbeing” settings category. It’s off by default, and when you turn it on, Android will show you a little bubble informing you of how much time you’re spending in the current app.
9to5Google has reported that it has received the update, and some people are taking to X (formerly Twitter) to show it off:
Google states that there’s no way to customize how often these notifications will appear, but it’s still a great way to keep tabs on how long you’ve been browsing Instagram.
If you’d like to try out this feature, you should see it appear on your Pixel devices soon. It’s also rolling out to other Android models, such as OnePlus, Oppo, and Nothing phones.
However, Samsung models already have a bespoke digital wellbeing tool, so you’ll likely have to wait for the Korean tech giant to release its own version of this handy feature. Alternatively, you could install an app that slows down your mindless scrolling through social media.
