You Should Update Your Apple Device to Protect Yourself From Getting Hacked

Apple is one of the companies you can trust that take privacy and security seriously. Unfortunately, it’s not perfect; it sometimes gets a zero-day vulnerability, meaning millions of users are affected by this weakness. A zero-day vulnerability or flaw is a cybersecurity problem (whether software or hardware) that the original manufacturer isn’t aware of, meaning it has no time to fix the issue before it was discovered or exploited.

Apple Releases a Patch to Fix Two Zero-day Flaws

The latest versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, visionOS, and Safari are all affected by two software flaws: CVE-2024-44308, which could allow unauthorized code to be executed through malicious web connect in JavaScriptCore, and CVE-2024-44309, a WebKit vulnerability that could allow malicious code to read the personal information on your device.

To counter these weaknesses, Apple released several software updates for their devices. iOS and iPadOS gets version 18.1.1 for iPhone XS and newer, iPad Pro 13-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later, iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and newer, iPad Air 3rd generation, iPad 7th generation and later, and iPad 5th generation and later. This is an add-on to iOS 18.1 which brings seven features to your device.

However, if you’re device is no longer compatible with iOS 18 or iOS 18.1., like the iPad Pro 12.9-inch 2nd generation and iPad Pro’s 10.5-inch, you can still update it to iOS or iPad 17.7.72 . Aside from mobile devices, MacBooks and the Apple Vision Pro also get their own updates. That means you need to get macOS Sequoia to versions 15.1.1, visionOS to 2.1.1., and Safari to version 18.1.1. This helps ensure that you’re protected even if you accidentally click on an infected link.

This zero-day flaw brings the total discovered vulnerability this year to five. So, to help protect yourself, the first thing you should do is update your iPhone or iPad; that way, you know you’re protected and prevent getting your information stolen from your phone or device. And if you’re getting an error when running the update process, check out this list of fixes to resume downloading your iOS update.
