Ever had to switch between your recent notes on the Notes app to check important details? iOS 18 added a new feature that simplifies this process and lets you access your recent notes in just a few taps.
How to Open Recent Notes From Within Your Current Note
The Notes app on iPhones is a solid alternative to Google Keep. It has several useful features, like document scanning on your iPhone and creating checklists. However, previously, if you wanted to open a recently created note within the Notes app, you had to leave your current note, return to your list of notes, and either scroll or search for the note manually.
If you frequently switch between notes to reference important details, this can get time-consuming. Thankfully, with iOS 18, the Notes app has received an update that lets you view recent notes without leaving the current one. Here’s what you need to do:
- Open any note in the Notes app.
- Select the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
-
Choose Recent Notes from the options in the dropdown menu.
A list of your most recent notes should now appear. Clicking any of these notes will allow you to instantly switch to it.

Steps to Clear Your Note History
Whether for privacy reasons or to stop irrelevant notes from showing up, you can also clear the Recent Notes list when using the iPhone Notes app. Here’s what you need to do:
- Open any note in the Notes app.
- Select the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
-
Tap Clear Menu under the list of your recent notes.
This will clear the list of notes, but every note you add or open will reappear in the Recent Notes menu.
While it’s not exactly a game-changer, I’ve caught myself using this feature frequently of late. It’s easy to access, saves time, and simplifies switching between notes. Give it a try. You might find it more useful than you first thought.
