Netflix Is Releasing a Wordle-Like Puzzle Game

Many of us have, over the past few years, made it part of our daily routine to play puzzle games. Wordle (which you can even play in virtual reality) arguably started it all, and the New York Times and others have run wild with the formula. Now, Netflix wants a piece of the action. So it has teamed up with TED for its latest game.

Netflix’s Latest Game Is Called “TED Tumblewords”

While Netflix is best known as a streaming service packed to the gills with movies and television shows, it also produces premium mobile games which are available to play by anyone who subscribes to the streaming service.

The latest release is called TED Tumblewords, and, as you may have guessed from the title, is a word game. As you also may have guessed from the title, it has been produced in partnership with TED, the not-for-profit organization best known for its TED Talks.

We don’t yet know the ins and outs of the game, but based on the write-up (and video) on Tudum, it looks like you have to search for words on a 9×9 grid. We also know that it will update daily, you can compete with friends, and that the puzzles will come with a side order of fascinating facts.

TED Tumblewords isn’t yet available, but it’s listed on app stores for “pre-order” (even though it’s going to be free for existing Netflix subscribers) with an expected release date of November 20.

Something of a Cross Between Wordle and Strands

To me, this game looks like a cross between Wordle and Strands (two NYT games I play daily). Wordle as you’re looking for words, and Strands as the letters are scrambled. Older readers may prefer the comparison TED made, which is “Boggle meets a Rubik’s Cube”.

I’m a big fan of Netflix’s mobile games, as they’re high-quality titles available as a free perk for subscribers. So I’ll be downloading TED Tumblewords as soon as it becomes available on November 20.
