As much as I love taking photos with my Samsung phone, that loud shutter sound every time I snap a picture gets on my nerves. I also didn’t want to be “that guy” who constantly annoys everyone around them with the camera shutter sound. Thankfully, I found a way to disable it for good.
Disabling the shutter sound should be done responsibly. It’s important to be mindful of privacy and respect your surroundings. Be sure to use this feature considerately, keeping in mind that the shutter sound is required in certain places for privacy and security reasons.
Mute the Shutter Sound via Camera Settings
Certain Galaxy phones come with an option in the camera settings that lets you mute or disable the shutter sound directly. If you’re lucky enough to own a Samsung phone that supports this feature, you can easily mute the camera shutter sound using these steps:
- Open the Camera app on your Samsung Galaxy phone.
- Tap the gear icon in the top left corner.
- Scroll down to find the Shutter sound toggle and turn it off.
Depending on your phone model, region, and carrier restrictions, the option to mute the shutter sound might not be available in your camera settings. In certain countries, such as Japan and South Korea, regulations require the camera shutter sound to remain enabled for privacy and security reasons.
Mute the Shutter Sound Using Modes and Routines
Unfortunately, when I checked my Galaxy phone, I couldn’t find an option to disable the shutter sound. If you’re in the same boat, don’t worry—there’s no need to put your phone in silent or vibration mode, or connect headphones every time you take a photo.
Samsung’s Modes and Routines make it easy to automate various actions. I used this feature to create a routine that automatically puts my phone in silent mode whenever I open the Camera app.
- Open the Settings app and tap Modes and Routines.
- Switch to the Routines tab and tap the plus icon in the top right corner.
- Select the Add what will trigger this routine option.
- Scroll down to the Event section and tap on App opened.
- Select Camera from the list of apps and hit Done.
- Tap the Add what this routine will do option.
- Go to Sounds and vibration > Sound mode and volume.
- Choose Vibrate or Mute, and then hit Done.
- Tap Save, give the routine your preferred name, and tap Done.
And that’s it. Now, when you open the Camera app, your Samsung phone will automatically switch to vibrate, or silent mode, and the shutter sound will be muted.
While I’d have preferred the simpler option of directly disabling the camera shutter sound on my Samsung Galaxy phone, using Routines isn’t too bad either. It’s a one-time setup, and it works seamlessly every time I use the Camera app.
