I recently switched from writing passwords down to the password manager NordPass. Beyond keeping all your passwords housed and protected all in one place I learned that NordPass comes equipped with an arsenal of handy features designed to keep my digital information safe.

How NordPass Works
Instead of memorizing all your passwords or writing them down on sticky notes (yep, that was me), NordPass stores them for you. This digital vault not only stores passwords but also login credentials, credit card information, and any sensitive information you wouldn’t want falling into the wrong hands.
It took about two minutes to get up and running. All I had to do was install the NordPass browser extension, upload my passwords, and let NordPass encrypt them. Now, whenever I need to log into a website or use credit card information, I just type in my master password to open NordPass and access the information I need.

Encrypted Vault
A password manager wouldn’t be much help if the stored information weren’t encrypted. That’s why NordPass uses the xChaCha20 encryption algorithm, a relatively new yet powerful encryption method, to scramble your valuable information, making it unreadable to hackers.
The only way to decrypt this information is with a master password, which you will create when setting up your NordPass account.
Password Generation
There’s little use in using a password manager if you use easy-to-guess passwords or even worse, reuse the same password for all your accounts.
However, making complex passwords can be difficult.
NordPass knows this and, as such, created a feature that allows users to automatically generate complex passwords that would take even the most skilled hackers ages to crack. Instead of spending time thinking of a secure password that satisfies a site’s many password requirements, with the click of a button NordPass does the dirty work for you.
Autofill and Autosave
Having to type out a long, complex password with capital and lowercase letters and various special characters every time you log into a website can be bothersome. One wrong character and you have to start all over again.
NordPass makes this process quick and seamless by auto-filling login details.
If you decide to create new login credentials on the browser, NordPass can also automatically save them so you don’t have to retype the same information in the password manager.
Biometric Authentication
As soon as I found out about this feature, I enabled it.
Authenticating with a username and password is old school.
Instead of typing in a master password to access the information you stored in NordPass’s vault, you can use your fingerprint. Using your finger to unlock NordPass has two benefits. For one, it’s more secure than a written password and two, logging in with a fingerprint means you’ll never have to remember another password ever again.
Data Breach Scanner
The average person has created 168 passwords over their lifetime. With the number of data breaches occurring nowadays, there’s a good chance one or two of those passwords have been compromised.
NordPass’s Data Breach Scanner is constantly scanning the dark web, looking for your sensitive data. If it finds a password on the dark web, you can simply use NordPass’s password generator feature to create a new one.
Password Health
A secure password is long, doesn’t use words found in the dictionary, and contains multiple special characters. Chances are, some passwords you’re using don’t satisfy this criteria.
NordPass’s Password Health feature quickly identifies easy-to-guess passwords. It will also identify repeatedly used passwords and passwords older than 90 days. If your password is flagged as old, reused, or weak, you should change it immediately.
NordPass and its many features have made me a satisfied convert. I highly recommend switching to NordPass for anyone who’s tired of writing down their passwords, doesn’t trust a browser to manage their passwords, or is worried about their data being compromised.
